Player Theory

1 min read
Hello everyone.  I know that I haven't been posting here, like at all recently.  Well, it's real life and all that took a hold of me.  But I would like to promote a new site that is doing gaming articles and reviews.  If you could check out Player Theory's site that would be great for the site.  We just need the viewership and your help would be greatly appreciated.

You know what?  Fuck Rise of the Tomb Raider.  At least as long as it stays exclusive to the ugly bone attached to Microsoft.  Hideo FREAKING Kojima had just teased us in another great freaking way.  Despite his... odd position on Ground Zeroes which should have been a lot less cheap... this is typical clever Kojima.

Today Sony had released a first ever "interactive teaser" on the PSN store titled "P.T."  Turns out it stands for Playable Teaser, and by the sounds of it by other people, this thing is THE MOST TERRIFYING THING TO BE WITNESSED IN LONG VIDEO GAME HISTORY.  For those who completed it, they were rewarded with a cutscene at the end.  It shows a rendered version of Norman Reedus of Walking Dead fame walking around with a flashlight in what appears to be a similar role to Harry Mason walking alone in... Silent Hill.  It is also being made with Hideo Kojima and Guillermo del Toro of Hellboy, Pan's Labyrinth, The Hobbit Movies, and Pacific Rim fame.  DUDE.  That is awesome.  Something I'd get a PS4 for with gusto.  Considering Silent Hill has been Playstation dominant for its run time (especially the first four) and this could very well be Silent Hill 5 or a full-blown remake, this feels RIGHT.  So much YES.  Fuck you Microsoft and Square Enix.  I want a full blown apology from Square and Microsoft to man up, say they bought Square out, and make something themselves.  If they wanted an Uncharted killer, if anyone could even manage to try is beyond me, they should have made it themselves instead of buying someone else out.

Exclusivity... something I don't particularly like.  It's kinda like a dick measuring tool for companies and their little fan trolls.  Or I should rather say exclusivity of something that shouldn't be.  Nintendo games on Nintendo consoles I can understand.  Sony games and Xbox games as such.  Now a game that doesn't belong on a different console and not on the proper console for no reason?  That's where I start to get angry.  The only excuse to this is if the game wouldn't have been made in the first place, like Bayonetta 2.  We still get the game AND the first and we wouldn't have gotten it in the first place without Nintendo.

For the record, I have enjoyed the reboot of Tomb Raider.  If you have followed me, I praised the merits it took as being a reboot as taking its roots seriously AND doing something new to the lore.  As opposed to the trash that was DmC.... but that's not why I'm ranting today.

But Rise of the Tomb Raider for the Xbone only?  No.  There's no reason.  It's because Microsoft is throwing money at people so that game don't appear on other consoles.  Dead Rising 3 for example.  No reason to be on the Bone since it went to PS3 and PC.  But guess what?  It stopped being exclusive when the money wasn't exactly coming in, I bet.  That's the big reason the Bone's "major" exclusive Ryse: Son of Rome is going to PC as well.  Titanfall is also on that front.

Do I believe this will remain exclusive?  No.  Why?  The sales.  Rise of the Tomb Raider WILL hurt in the sales, I guarantee it.  Very much so to Square Enix.  The first reboot sold terribly across five consoles... to Square.  It sold like 5... 6 million and only THEN when it got to 6 million is when Square finally said it was profitable.  At 6 MILLION.  Across PS4, 3, Xbone, 360, and PC.  That's close to 1 million per console.  You honestly, HONESTLY think this will end good for you?

Think about this for a second Square Enix.  You aren't exactly in a good state with your money.  Sony had recently dropped you because they didn't see you were profitable.  This is a good reason why they don't think you are profitable anymore (also see Final Fantasy: All the Bravest, First release of Final Fantasy XIV, the whoring out FFXIII, your mobile blunders, not properly working on Final Fantasy XIII-Versus now FFXV or Kingdom Hearts 3).  Now you expect that a sequel to something that was a "failure" to you, Tomb Raider selling a modest 3-4 million across several consoles at first, to sell great on one console that is as of late only around 4-5 million in install base with a lot of negative publicity attached to it?  You just alienated your Playstation crowd and your PC crowd just because Microsoft paid you a lot of money.  I would also like to point out that Tomb Raider on the Xbone sold only .17 million.  www.vgchartz.com/game/78260/to…  I'm oh so SURE that this won't end in disaster in any shape or form.

If Square keeps with this decision, they're going to make many, MANY people pissed off and not want to support their games.  Hopefully this stupid decision of Square's rectified in the future.  This is utterly disgraceful.

Hello everyone.  BreakSlash here.

Today's topic is the current state of Capcom, one of my go-to whipping boys for controversy or doing something very stupid as of late.  Before this year's E3 2014, I heard a few rumors that something special was going to be announced.  Rumors of Dino Crisis finally getting a remake, Resident Evil 2 remake, an Enhanced Veronica, among others.  Come E3... just stuff on things they announced BEFORE E3- Monster Hunter 4 footage, Ace Attorney for 3DS eShop, and Dead Rising 3 for PC.  Something they said wouldn't happen ever along with Microsoft.  Good, glad to know those are liars.  Oh and DLC that has a bunch of Capcom history poking fun of Capcom and their practices.  Good lord if I try to type out that title...

So what happened?  What's going on with Capcom?  Well, Capcom is pretty much on the line of being bought out.  www.destructoid.com/capcom-sha…
Last I heard, Capcom only had $150 million in the bank.  That's not a lot at all.  In fact, that's around the amount to make 1 game.  Just one.  And with Capcom trying to get games to be like Call of Duty, that was just going to end with failure.  Hell, Dead Rising 3, heavily promoted, only got 1 million back.

So here we are.  The shareholders aren't going to save Capcom now.  They are close to being gone- dissolved into another company.  And good.  As much as I love Capcom... or love their games, not them, the guys at Capcom are just not competent or capable of managing these IPs.  Someone else needs to step in.

In the event of Capcom being flat out bought out, as in if Sony doesn't take a few IPs and Nintendo takes a few... I think Nintendo should be the one to buy them out completely.  For one, at least two franchises has been consistently on Nintendo exclusive- Monster Hunter and Ace Attorney (and yes, I'm aware of the PSP Monster Hunter, but that was rare).  Another is that Capcom has a notorious dealing with exclusivity with other titles- see Dead Rising, Devil May Cry, Resident Evil, and among others.  To be honest, they don't seem to like making special deals with Sony and Microsoft.  It normally bites them in the ass later down the line.  That and I think they are starting to think "Say, we shouldn't have screwed Nintendo with our Big Five deal for the Gamecube, huh?"

If Nintendo does it, then they become even stronger competition to Sony and Microsoft (though I use competition with Microsoft loosely on both ends).  Street Fighter on only Nintendo consoles.  Mega Man as he was to begin with.  Resident Evil was at it highest when it was on the Gamecube.  I think that with better management with Nintendo, who has started and outlasted them at this point, these IPs can be great again, as opposed to being just all right and nothing special.  I generally think that Capcom trying to please everyone, i.e. catering to every console maker and all the audiences while appealing to none, was their downfall.  Once they broke that Big Five deal, we saw things taking a noticeable turn for the worse.

Thoughts?  Just like Capcom squirming for bad business practices?  Hopeful?  Sad?  Let me know!

I did not want to hear this.  But apparently it's true.

Net Neutrality is killed by the government.  That means the Internet is going to take a big hit.  Big corporations that provide internet, like Verizon, Google, and the sort can dictate what sites get fast speeds and what gets slower speeds.  We may have to pay the providers to get access to certain sites.  They can even block certain sites they don't like.  This is some pretty damning information.  The freedom of the internet is going to be stifled and quieted.  I urge you to spread the word.  This needs to be spread like wildfire.  Go tell others.  As many people as you can.  This doesn't benefit anyone outside of big corporations.  The bigger the voice of outrage on this one, the better this problem can be fixed.
